CLASSIFICATION TITLE: DIRECTOR OF FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES

POSITION GOAL
Administers the planning, organizing, and direction of all food services functions.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administers, directs, and manages all food services tasks to ensure the accomplishment of school district schedules, goals, and objectives.
Develops, evaluates, and implements policies and procedures to promote maximum safety, efficiency and effectiveness of cafeteria operations.
Conducts research, compiles data, and generates effective informational resources for dissemination to all stakeholders; includes recommendations for effective short and long-range planning for food service issues.
Directs planning, scheduling, and coordination of food services programs and operations.
Develops, implements, and controls food services budgets; ensuring all food services functions and programs are performed within established budgetary parameters.
Oversees the bidding and food selection process.
Performs cost control activities and monitors revenues and expenditures to ensure sound fiscal control.
Represents the district at various conferences, seminars, and public professional meetings for the dissemination of information and continuing education programs.
Maintains open and effective communication with district personnel and vendors for the dissemination of information and effective food services operations.
Collaborates with federal, state and local agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and guidelines.
Interfaces with Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (FDACS), Food Nutrition Wellness (FNW), Florida State Auditor General, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Department of Health, and School Board.
Assists in maintaining a positive public relations program.
Participates in the planning of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities.
Submits recommendations to the School Board for new or revised policies.
Develops appropriated Board agenda items pertaining to areas of responsibilities.
Maintains a network of peer contacts through professional organizations.
Supervises assigned personnel, conducts annual performance appraisals, and makes recommendation for appropriate employment action.
Evaluates and monitors the allocation of food service workers and the formula on which allocations are based.
Monitors systems in menu planning, purchasing, inventory, recipe development, payment, and accounting.
Utilizes current technology, as appropriate, to perform job functions and participates in training programs offered to increase technology skill level and proficiency related to job assignment.
Performs related duties as directed.
Responsibilities include interviewing applicants; recommending the hiring of new employees; instructing and/or training employees; planning, coordinating, assigning, directing and reviewing the work of others; providing approval on leave requests; determining the work hours for others; addressing employee complaints and resolving problems; disciplining employees; and conducting performance evaluations.
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert non-strenuous effort in work involving sedentary physical activity, typically involving some combination of standing; walking; sitting; reaching with hands and arms; kneeling; crawling; climbing; balancing; bending; crouching or twisting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and push and/or pull up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and the use of foot controls are occasionally required. Tasks involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, some tasks regularly require oral communication ability; the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds; the ability to perceive and discriminate odors; most tasks require visual perception and discrimination and the ability to distinguish color.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, tasks are occasionally performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme temperature; outdoor weather conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; noise and vibration.
Bachelor's Degree in food and nutrition, food service management, business, or related field; Master’s Degree preferred
Must possess, or obtain within one year of employment, and maintain certification in a food service sanitation training program (e.g., ServSafe®)
Minimum five (5) years successful experience in school food service or institutional management operations, including experience in a supervisory role
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with a driving record which meets district standards
